Matthew McConaughey Sunglasses: Identifying his Favorite Brands

McConaughey doesn’t shy away from wearing a wide array of sunglasses and it’s these frames that help Accenture his persona of cool. Over this long career of over 30 years, McConaughey has worn a wide variety of different styles of frames from popular well-known brands to smaller independent companies.

Some of the more generic glasses McConaughey wears are from the likes of Ray-Ban. Over the years he’s been photographed wearing a wide variety of different Aviator Sunglasses that are easily identifiable due to the Ray-Ban branding printed directly onto the lenses. In this movie, is also a common reoccurrence. In the films like The Gentleman (2019) and Dallas Buyers Club (2013).

Wearing Polaroid (PLD8009) Sunglasses

The image above was quite easy to identify thanks to the clear branding on the side of the sunglasses arms. These are clearly a pair of Polaroid Sunglasses in the classic style of Aviators with a clear/transparent finish. The exact pair of sunglasses is the Polaroid PLD8009 Sunglasses and they can be purchased directly from Polaroid Eyewear for around $80.00.

Next, let’s move on to the glasses as seen in the image below, and probably McConaughey’s most worn frames (at least as of present). These frames have caused me a lot of frustration in identifying them as their style, which is Aviators, is common, but the exact design is like nothing I can find online. I’ve spent hours trawling through various forums, images, and videos and have yet to find an answer to the exact frames that he wears here. This is why I ask for my reader’s help from time to time. If anyone has any information on these sunglasses (seen clearly in the image above) then please get in touch with us.

Do you know what sunglasses these are?

One of the more expensive frames McConaughey wears can be seen in the photo below and has been identified to be a pair of Dita Rikton Sunglasses (Type-402). These frames are some of my favorites with a full rim, square frame, and full metal body. The lenses are worthy of note as well as the blue color doesn’t just look good but also provides photochromic lenses which means they change color, or tint, depending on the lighting. Dit Rikon’s are no longer sold by the brand but can be found on second-hand marketplaces for around $1000.00 (depending on quality).

Finally, we have the Dita Alican Sunglasses (DTS-404) that McConaughey can be seen wearing during a ceremony honoring Guy Fieri during a Hollywood Walk of fame event. These small framed aviator-style glasses are eye-catching due to their stark red lenses yet clear/transparent frame. Dita Alican’s are still available to purchase from DITA starting at the eyewatering cost of $755.00.
