Nic Cage’s Sunglasses in the 2022 Film ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’
Love him or hate him, Nicolas Cage is one of a kind and never fails to keep us entertained. From the insanity of “Face-Off” to his beloved ‘National Treasure’ film series, Nicholas Cage has graced our screens for over 40 years and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. But there’s more to Nicolas Cage than meets the eye. Aside from his eccentric performances, insane comic book collection, and bizarre collection of exotic animals, he’s also never failed to impress with his sense of style and fashion.
This latest movie ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’ (2022) showcases exactly that. Perhaps his most unusual film of recent years, Nicholas Cage actually plays himself and is accidentally recruited by the CIA to help bring down a criminal organization. Featuring Pedro Pascal as a super fan, and mainly set within the tranquil setting of Italy, the movie’s choice of style and fashion encapsulates mid-century Italy with elegance, sophistication, and attention to detail.
Nicolas Cage Sunglasses: The Unbearable Weight of These Frames
Throughout the film, Nicholas Cage is seen wearing a distinctive pair of sunglasses. One of the most distinctive features of Nic Cage’s Sunglasses in the film are their large oversized look, thick acetate frames, and unusual colored red tinted lenses. Due to their uniqueness, they drew a lot of attention after the film aired with many people trying to get their hands on them to replicate his look.
The sunglasses have been identified to be a pair of Police x Lewis Hamilton SPL32s. These glasses are of course a collab between designer brand Police and famed Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton. The Police X Lewis Hamilton collection combines retro-inspired shapes with a classic contemporary look creating strong angular frames.
Unfortunately, the exact pair worn by Nicolas Cage doesn’t seem to be currently available on the Police’s official website. They do have the same frames available, dubbed the Lewis 16 Sunglasses, but these don’t currently come in black nor feature the red lenses as seen in the film. It’s unclear when they stopped selling the SPL32 as the promotional material on the Police website still feature Lewis Hamilton wearing the exact frames (see below).
I did some quick searches and investigation on whether or not these exact sunglasses worn by Nic were ever available to purchase, or were simply custom lenses put inside the SPL32 Frames. Looking back at old versions of their website and I failed to find the red-lensed pair. It seems that the collab between Police and Lewis first hit the stores somewhere in 2019, but it wasn’t until 2022, that these bold frames hit the market, with them focusing more on racing/sports glasses at the start.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent: Other Sunglasses
Sunglasses are worn by many of the cast throughout ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’. One of the most recurring frames is the Ray-Ban Olympian worn by characters such as Pedro Pascal, who played superfan Javi Gutierrez. Sunglasses were also worn by led female character Sharon Horgan, but these sunglasses have yet to be identified (or at least verified).
